Become a Chaperone

Helping our members enjoy their time at Blizzard and watching them grow into responsible young people is an immensely rewarding way to spend a few Saturdays each winter. Plus, it's a great way to spend time with your children doing a life-long activity the whole family can enjoy together. We hope you'll consider joining us!

Below you'll find information about the responsibilities and benefits of being a Blizzard chaperone. If you decide to join the staff, simply submit a staff registration form online. Once you're registered, your username and password will allow you to access more detailed information on our staff website. For additional information, please contact the Blizzard office.

Responsibilities

Bus Supervision
Blizzard needs adult chaperones on each bus to help provide members with a safe, fun trip to and from the area each week. Your responsibilities on the bus include taking attendance, distributing lift tickets, making announcements, and reviewing the provided weekly lesson schedule with members. You also help escort our littlest members, the Mites, SuperMites, and SuperKyds, to and from the chalet.

The Blizzard Table
Each week, we take over a few tables in the chalet to make the "Blizzard Table." Staffed all day long by chaperones, members stop by the Blizzard Table to get newly-earned zipper pulls, to find a lost mitten, or just to get some TLC. Chaperones are usually scheduled for a one to two hour shift at the table each week.

Benefits

Program Discounts
Many parents become chaperones to earn discounts for their children's membership fees. The table below describes the benefits based on the number of trips you have attended as a chaperone at the start of the season. In other words, your benefits will increase next year if you chaperone enough trips this year. If you do not chaperone enough trips, you will remain at the same benefit level. There are generally no adjustments for cancelled trips.

Free Blizzard Clinics
If you're interested in becoming an instructor, be sure to take advantage of Blizzard's excellent training opportunities! Blizzard clinics are a great way to develop skills according to standards set by the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI). They're also some of the best clinics available anywhere! Staff at some schools have to pay for training. At Blizzard, it's free! All you need to pay for is your lift ticket. Our investment in training demonstrates our commitment to putting the best staff possible on the hill with our members, and it's a terrific benefit for Blizzard chaperones.

Free Saturday Lessons
Want to improve your own skiing or snowboarding skills to keep up with your children? Take advantage of free ski and snowboard lessons just for chaperones on Saturdays, pending instructor availability, beginning in January.

Uniforms

Although uniforms are optional for chaperones, we recommend them because they help members and parents recognize Blizzard staff on and off the slopes. Our uniform program allows you to purchase high-quality, brand-name clothing at discounted prices, often below wholesale. Please contact the office if you are interested in purchasing a uniform. Even if you choose not to purchase a uniform, you must wear your Blizzard name tag.
